Basics of Pistol Shooting

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience. This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules, and take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate. In this class, you will start by shooting a .22LR caliber pistol and revolver and then progress to 9mm, .40 caliber and.45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. By shooting various sizes and calibers it should give the student a good idea of what size frame and caliber is right for you. Use of our firearms and ammo are included in the class price.

Prerequisites:

  • U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  • Puerto Rico Firearms License.
  • Students are required to provide: Hearing, eye protection and baseball cap.

Defensive Pistol

The NRA Defensive Pistol Course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course will be to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, the student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following: how to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm; basic principles of concealment; the difference between cover and concealment; drawing from the holster; levels of mental awareness; developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection; clearing common stoppages; use of pocket pistols; and more. The course is at least 8-Hours (4-Hrs in the Classroom and 4-Hrs. on the range). Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics Of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate. This course is only conducted by NRA certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.

Prerequisites:

  • U.S. citizen or legal resident of 21 years of age or older.
  • Puerto Rico Firearms License.
  • NRA Basic Pistol or equivalent.
  • Students are required to Provide:
    • Safe Semi-Auto preferably in 9mm to .45 calibers with all factory-installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications.
    • “Pocket Pistols” are not allowed.
    • Holsters must correctly fit the firearm, completely cover the trigger guard and remain open when the firearm is removed.
    • Minimum of 250 rounds of factory ammunition (no hand reloads allowed).
    • Electronic hearing protection (mandatory), eye protection and baseball cap.

Defensive Pistol – I

The PP Defensive Pistol – I Course will focus on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset.  Student will be able to explain and demonstrate the following:  basic principles of concealment; drawing from the holster; levels of mental awareness and developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection; clearing common stoppages; use of pocket pistols; and more. The course is at least 8-Hours. Students will receive a Defensive Pistol – I certificate.

  • Students are required to Provide:
    • Safe Semi-Auto preferably in 9mm to .45 calibers with all factory-installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications.

    • Holsters must correctly fit the firearm, completely cover the trigger guard and remain open when the firearm is removed.
    • Minimum of 250 rounds of factory ammunition (no hand reloads allowed).

RIFLE TRAINING COURSES

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

This course is at least eight hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate. Use of our firearms and ammo are included in the class price.

NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation (AR/AK Platform)

NRA FIRST Steps Rifle is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation the AR or AK type of rifles. This course is at least four hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot an AR or AK rifle. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular rifle model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

Prerequisites:

  • U.S. citizen or legal resident of 21 years of age or older.
  • Puerto Rico Firearms License.
  • Students are required to provide:
    • Safe Semi-Auto AR or AK rifle with all factory-installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications.
    • Electronic or optical sights are not allowed.
    • Minimum of 100 rounds of factory ammunition (no hand reloads allowed).
    • Electronic hearing protection (mandatory), eye protection and baseball cap.

Cost: $125.00

NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course

This course is at least 10 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

  • U.S. citizen or legal resident of 21 years of age or older.

NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Course

This course teaches beginning reloaders the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to safely reload metallic cartridges.  It is eight hours in length and is conducted in a classroom. Each student is taught reloading safety; centerfire cartridge components; using the reloading manual and reloading data; equipment; and the metallic cartridge reloading process. Students will receive the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, the Basic Reloading Student Exam, a course completion certificate, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure and a Course Evaluation form.

NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading Course

This course teaches beginning reloaders the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to safely reload shotgun shells. It is eight hours in length and is conducted in a classroom. Each student is taught reloading safety; shotgun shell components; using the reloading manual and reloading data; equipment; and the shotgun shell reloading process. Students will receive the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, the Basic Reloading Student Exam, a course completion certificate, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure and a Course Evaluation form.

PISTOL FUNDAMENTALS COURSE

The USCCA Basic Pistol course is a 6-hour course that covers all of the basics of purchasing, owning, operating, maintenance, and cleaning of a handgun. In addition to extensive classroom time, students will have several hours on the range to practice their shooting skills. This class is ideal for the first time or novice shooters of all ages, or for anyone wanting to build a good foundation of firearms knowledge.

Prerequisites:

  • U.S. citizen or legal resident of 21 years of age or older.
  • Puerto Rico Firearms License with Target Shooting Permit.
  • Students are required to provide:
    • Safe Semi-Auto preferably in 9mm to .45 calibers with all factory-installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications.
    • “Pocket Pistols” are not allowed.
    • Holsters must correctly fit the firearm, completely cover the trigger guard and remain open when the firearm is removed.
    • Minimum of 100 rounds of factory ammunition (no hand reloads allowed).
    • Electronic hearing protection (mandatory), eye protection and baseball cap.
